Here is a four headed Buddha given to Hong Kong from Taiwan.
Their interpretation of Shangra La.
Off to an old city in western Kowloon. This city was about as big as a U.S. city block and supposedly held 600 people in it at one time. There was no streets, just small alley ways. When the bus arrived our tour guide informed us that the women there would get really mad if they saw you taking a picture of them. They wanted $10for each photo and if you didn't pay they would chase you down. So we only got one photo with all of the ladies in it.
When the Brits came into China and took over Hong Kong the Chinese people locked up their city and wouldn't let them in. Well the Brits just tour the gates down. Many, many years later when Hong Kong was turned back over to China somehow they found those gates over in the U.K., shipped them back and placed them back onto the city walls. What a feat of brotherhood.
A shrine they build up every year, and burn down every year in celebration.
They took us to the border of Kowloon and mainland China. Unfortunately for Pam there was a long steep hill to the top of the overlook and along our way we see one of our last shrines of China.
Made it.
25 years ago this city wouldn't have existed. The almighty American dollar has made this city to what it is today. This city is every electronic component, sporting good item, anything that China makes and America owns.
I guess they felt us Americans needed some extra help, so they took us to the wishing tree. Long story but in a short version if you make a wish and tie it on the tree, which is now a billboard, you will get your wish. Believe me there were a lot of wishes from me and my friends.
